EASTER

EASTER

Easter celebrates Jesus coming back to life. We celebrate because we have been rescued from sin and death and brought in to the family of God by this act of Jesus.

How does your family celebrate Easter?

Did you know?
In Bible times, people were buried in excavated caves.  Grooves were cut in the ground in front of the openings of these caves and then large flat, round stones were rolled into these grooves to keep out animals and thieves.

Did you know?

The word Alleluia or Hallelujah literally means "Praise the Lord."  "Hallal" is Hebrew for praise and "Yah" means God, like YHWH.

How do you praise God?

Listen to Hallelujah from Handel's Messiah performed by The Choir of King's College, Cambridge. The link is below.

Use these wondering questions to explore the Easter story.

I wonder what Jesus' friends thought when they saw that the tomb was empty?

If you were one of the disciples, I wonder what you would have done when you realized Jesus was alive again.  Who would you tell first?

YOUTH VIDEO
Watch the video below from the Skit Guys and then read the story of the resurrection of Jesus found in Mark 16:1-8.
Verse 8 is where the original gospel of Mark ends leaving us with lots of questions.
What happened to the disciples?
How did the word get out that Jesus had risen from the dead?
Early Christians found this abrupt ending troublesome, so they added other endings similar to those of other gospels.  Theses ending are found in Mark 16: 9-16.
Read these additional endings too!

Make Cascaróns
Cascaróns are confetti filled eggs popular in Mexico at Easter time.    The egg symbolizes rebirth and resurrection of Jesus.

Directions for making these festive eggs:
Dye and decorate raw eggs then blow them out leaving a hole in one end large enough to get pieces of confetti into the eggs.
Let dry and then put some confetti in the egg.  Use a piece of tissue paper and glue to close the hole.
In Mexico they crack the eggs on a persons head so they are showered with confetti and well wishes.
Crack the egg with the tissue paper side down. It might hurt a bit if you crack it with the bottom side hitting the person's head.

When cracking on very small children, I suggest breaking the egg in your hand above their head instead of directly on their head. This will prevent any potential boo-boos.
HAVE FUN!
