On Palm Sunday we remember the day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The people were so excited that Jesus was coming because they thought he was going to be their king. They didn't have flags to wave but they cut down palm branches and waived them in the air. They shouted "Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"

Hosanna means "save us, we pray." The Jewish people lived under the rule of the Roman government. They had many hopes that a savior would come like a mighty general and fight for their freedom.
Did you Know?
When a king entered a city, he rode either on a white horse to show he came to conquer the city, or on a donkey to show he came in peace.
Zechariah 9:9 promised the new king of Jerusalem would enter the city on a donkey's colt.
