SUMMER AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

TAKE OUT CHURCH - Yippee!!! It's summer, and with many families traveling on weekends, it might mean missing worship and all the spiritual formation that happens in church on a Sunday morning.  TAKE OUT CHURCH is a way to bring your faith to life while on vacation.  Before your vacation, just pick up one of our TAKE OUT CHURCH boxes from the narthex.  In the box you will find ways  to worship together while on vacation including opportunities for laughter and fellowship, praise and prayer, and for express gratitude and thanksgiving.  All this in a box that will fit nicely under a seat in your vehicle.

PRAYER POWER SPIRITUALITY CENTER -  Our summer Spirituality Center is all about prayer.  Prayer describes relationship with God, with one another and with community.  We all have the desire to have a more intimate prayer life or deeper insights from God, but often don't know how to get there.  This interactive center, designed for all ages will help you to approach prayer in new and unique way.  The center is located on the first floor of the Sunday School building, across form the Adult Study Room and is open whenever the church is open.  All are welcome!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - August 12-16, from 9:00 am to noon.  Mark your calendar for this summer's Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian Church of Newton focusing on Micah 6:8, "He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

Sunday School

The Sunday School teachers at First Presbyterian Church of Newton have the amazing privilege of nurturing kids' faith and being an example of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
Sunday School meets each Sunday from September through May at 9:00 am.  Classes are available for children 3 years of age through grade 12.  Children in preschool to grade 5 gather at 9:00 am for a short opening worship time before heading to their respective classes.
Each December the children present a Sunday School Christmas program to help prepare hearts for the coming of our Savior.
Periodically throughout the year they sing and help lead worship.

Bible Studies

We have a variety of short term and long term studies at First Presbyterian Church of Newton, as well as seasonal events including Advent and Lenten adventures, a Seder celebration, and Presbyterian Women's gatherings.  Check the church calendar for upcoming events and programs.

A Sunday evening Bible Study lead by Pastor David Young meets from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Adult Study room.

A Monday morning discussion group meets from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the Adult Study Room using The Wired Word.

Jubilee Women, a study for all women of the church meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.  .

Youth Group

Youth group is open to youth in grades 6 to 12 and meets during the school year on Sunday evenings from 6-8 pm.  A typical Sunday night includes a time of fellowship, devotions, and games.  Here is an idea of some of our activities and events:

Pie Baking - we bake over 200 apple & pumpkin pies each November to be placed in Thanksgiving baskets for families in need in our community.

Annual Mission trip - each summer we take travel to a different city to help make home repairs for families who might not be able to make the repairs themselves.

We also prepare meals for Manna House, play laser tag, worship around the campfire, help paint Sunday School rooms, volunteer at the community food bank, host a Sweetheart Diner, go sledding and ice skating, and help with Vacation Bible School, just to name a few.
